Goodbye Tuffy - RIP our sweet fella
Tuffy's lung cancer finally took him to the Rainbow Bridge
We were so blessed to have had this wonderful boy with us for such a long and very happy time at Straydog. We don't know why Tuffy was never adopted. Our volunteers got to know and love Tuffy at Adoption Days and Special Events and he held a special place in their hearts. Tuffy loved walking around Petsmart looking at all the shelves of toys. He was such a happy boy. He couldn't attend this last year's events due to his worsening lung cancer but now he is running free.
We will miss you Tuffy and we will always love you.
BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Tuesday, June 21, 2016. This is Bill here in my office with Jorge on the phone from H2 at Straydog. We are going to do yesterday’s report. Go ahead Jorge, what happened Tuesday?
Jorge: Ronnie was here on Tuesday morning and I got here around 9:00. Ronnie took over for our overnight crewmember Brandy at 6:00. They started feeding all of the outside dogs at 6 a.m. He mentioned that Junior ate his entire meal at the a.m. feeding. Junior was one of the dogs who wouldn’t eat their afternoon meals on Monday. Junior’s kennelmate is Erika. Ronnie wrote in the log that Junior ate everything this morning. Then Ronnie did the H2 walks and finished around 7:30. He cleared the Shirley Olsen Beemer Park for the outside dogs’ walks.
There’s Stephanie doing kennel work in momma-dog Minnie’s outside kennel. That’s the back hall kennel in H1 and it has an outdoor kennel with it too.
There’s Wayne working in Thunder and Storm’s kennel and changing water.
Wayne removed the doghouses from Copper and Jet’s shelter to clean up a little bit. He washed the doghouses.
Stephanie was working in Colt and Fatso’s kennel.
Maci was the walker in the Shirley Olsen Beemer Park. She had Joe and Brownie in the park. She was playing with them and brushing Brownie.
Jorge Jr. took David and Wayne to the park.
BILL: That’s dog David and dog Wayne. We named a whole bunch of dogs after our crew a long time ago.
Jorge: We have dogs Wayne, David, Beto, Jorge and James who passed away. James was one of the brothers and Marie is the other one.
Dogs Wayne and David were playing in the park. They love to jump on the slide.
I got to Straydog around 9:00 and I had a vet appointment for the five kittens. They were going to their shots. I also took puppy Tarzan, puppy Chihuahua Poo Poo and a new rescue. My wife and I rescued a female dog, who was running around near my house on Monday afternoon. We live right next door to Straydog. My wife went home to check on my other son. She called me over the radio because she found this dog. She’s a small Terrier mix. She’s white with brown spots.
There’s Stephanie taking her to the van. I named her Maci. Maci wanted a dog named after her. She’s really cute. Like I said, she’s white with brown spots on her face and back. There’s Stephanie putting new rescue Maci in a crate in the van.
At the clinic, we started with all of the kitty-cats. There are a bunch of pictures of the kitties. Dr. Erica Dumeyer checked all of the kittens and gave them shots.
I also took Allie, one of the Chihuahuas, to have her eye rechecked. I got pictures of her in the waiting room.
The doctor checked her eye and prescribed more eye drops. She looked much better and they want to check her eye again in two weeks.
There’s puppy Tarzan in the waiting room. He got his puppy shots.
There’s Maci, the new female. They said that she’s a Terrier mix.
Dr. Erica checked her and took her to the back of the clinic. She was going to spend the night there and she will probably be ready to come back to Straydog today.
Then I left and took three dogs back to Straydog. They were waiting at the clinic for us to make room here. I brought Stella back. She was the Rottweiler that a lady just dumped here last week. I also brought the male Pit Bull mix back. He’s white with just a few black freckles. He’s a very sweet dog. Maci helped me bring him inside.
There’s Ronnie and Stephanie meeting him.
That’s all of the pictures for Tuesday. I brought another dog home to Straydog. She’s a Chihuahua mix and she’s very old. She’s undergoing heartworm treatment and she had her first treatment. She will be in H1 and we will be walking her on a leash. She’s probably 10 or 12 years old. She’s going to be fine. We fed her yesterday and she ate her meal.
BILL: We got a lot of good pictures that Jorge took at the clinic. We owe Morton Clinic over $25,000 again. You can see why. It just keeps on going. Dog after dog after dog needs treatment and we take them to the clinic. We certainly hope that everyone will donate to the Straydog account at Morton Small Animal Clinic, PO Box 1356, Athens, TX 75751, phone: 903-675-5708.
Okay, thanks Jorge. We will be back again tomorrow with another report from Straydog.

BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Saturday, June 18, 2016. This is Bill here in my office with Ronnie on the phone from Straydog.
RONNIE: On Saturday, June 18th, we had a full crew. The a.m. feeding went well and most of the dogs ate pretty well. They have been eating for the past couple of days, which is a positive. A lot of times they don’t eat that well in the mornings, but they’ve been eating great.
BILL: Especially when it’s as hot as it is getting.
RONNIE: Wayne and Jorge Jr. were working in kennels. Shelby was the W1, which is the walker in Pat Arnold Park. Maci was walker number two or W2. She was training Katrina to be a walker as well and that will give us more options. They were in the Shirley Olsen Beemer Park. That will give us more options and Katrina did really well.
There’s Jorge Jr. in housers’ section. He was changing the water buckets in Panda and Oreo’s kennel.
Maci and Katrina were in the Beemer Park. Maci was showing her everything that needed to be done while she was out there. We change the water in the pools and water buckets, brush the dogs, clip their nails and basically groom them while they are out there for 10 minutes.
Jorge Jr. was changing the water in the buckets and in the pool in Chester and Wendy’s kennel. Chester constantly plays in his pool, so he stays cool. He’s a swimmer.
Maci and Katrina were checking the dogs, before they go to the park, to make sure that they don’t have ringworm or anything like that. We don’t want to contaminate the park with ringworm and spread it to the other dogs. There they are checking Skylar. They were making sure that he was okay and he didn’t have any sores on him.
Wayne was filling a hole in Junior and Erika’s kennel. Erika and Junior’s kennel is right next to Junior’s sister Ebony’s kennel. They dig under the gate and go into each other’s kennels at night and play together.
BILL: They get along really well. When we have taken them to the park together, they haven’t gotten along.
RONNIE: But they play together really well at night.
Karen was in H1. She comes up here on Fridays and Saturdays and sometimes Sundays to fill in and help in H1.
There’s a picture of Katrina. Maci trained her for half a day and she was by herself here. She picked it up very quickly. She was walking Harley and Nancy to the park and then she was checking Harley for ringworm.
There’s Wayne in central, which was our original campus. He was changing water buckets in Shuby’s kennel. He’s one of the dogs in the back.
There’s Shelby feeding some of the dogs a third meal. We feed our dogs that are too skinny a third meal. And, when the dogs don’t eat in the morning, we will feed them a third meal in between feedings.
There are pictures of Wayne in Fred and Ethel’s kennel. He watered their kennel down thoroughly. They dig a hole and lie in it. If we fill the hole with water, it keeps them cool.
Katrina was almost at the end of her walks and she was with Travis and Maria.
Maci was in the H1 Park.
Our p.m. feeding went well and all of the dogs ate pretty well.
David came out to get some dogs for an Adoption Day event, as he does every Saturday. I didn’t get any pictures. He took Gina, Talena and Tarzan to Adoption Day. They got back around 5:00 and we fed them. That wrapped up the day.
BILL: That’s it. We’ll be back again tomorrow with another report from Straydog.
