BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Saturday, December 12, 2015. Bill and Juana here early Monday report with the Saturday report. Juana, let’s talk about what happened Saturday.

JUANA: It was a good day. When we woke up at 5:00 that morning, it was 70 degrees. I thought that I would have to get my jacket and overalls out. I couldn’t find my shorts actually. It rained and got cooler later that day.

At 6:30 in the morning, we feed Portia. She’s diabetic and we only give her five units of insulin. We will have to take her back to the vet for another blood sugar curve test. Right now, she’s enjoying her food and all of her ringworm sores are gone. She will be able to go to the park pretty soon and she’s a happy girl.
Picture
Portia sees and smells her food and is ready to eat.
Newly has been acting weird. I don’t know if his pancreatitis is flaring up. He doesn’t have bloody diarrhea, but he isn’t eating very well. His back is arched in pain. The first thing that I did for him was to stop the antibiotic that Dr. James gave him for all of the sores. That could be what’s causing the problem. We will find out today, if he’s eating or feeling better. He ate better Saturday and Sunday.
Picture
Newly is resting in his warm hay filled house. He is not feeling too well, usually he is at the fence saying hi.
There I am feeding the little Chihuahua gang.
Picture
We don’t feed them a big meal at 6:00. The person, who is running H1, feeds them in the morning and again in the afternoon. We have two big puppy plates and that’s what we feed them. They all eat together. We don’t need little bowls for each one of them. There’s so many of them.

BILL:
This is before 7:00. It’s not light yet.
JUANA: David Ford feeds Jimmy around 5:00 in the morning. I was picking up his bowl and trying to give him a treat. You can see that he almost took it. When I am feeding the dogs by myself, he will let me touch his nose with a treat. Then I have to drop it and he will get it right away. He’s not afraid of me anymore and that’s wonderful.
Picture
This is about a close as Juana can get to Jimmy for now. One day he is going to let Juana pet him, it's just a matter of time.
We also feed Harley and Nancy separately. You have to kiss and love on Nancy, before she eats. Then she will smile at you. If you ignore her and don’t give her any attention, then she won’t eat. That’s our routine. She expects it. Harley is already eating in the feeding gate and you can see that she’s eating.
Picture
Nancy has to have a kiss before she will eat her meal.
There’s a picture of Rudy. And that's Wayne picking up poopers in the big Beemer park.
Picture
There I am giving pills to Terry and giving Brody a meatball too. If you put medicine in the food of some of the dogs they won’t eat it. Even if you crush the pill, they won’t eat their food if they smell the pill. That’s the case with Terry and Wolfie. Purtis is another one, who will run into his shelter and won’t eat, if he smells a pill in his food. George and I wait until after they eat and then we give out meatballs with the pills in them. Then they think they are getting a treat. They’ll take it like that.
Picture
Terry gets a meatball with her medicine in it first, but Brody is there to make sure he gets a meatball treat too.
I picked up Harley and Nancy’s bowls. I make Harley sit and shake my hand to get his treat. He doesn’t attack us, when we pick up his bowl. He knows this routine and he’s not food aggressive anymore. We pick up his bowl, he shakes our hands and he gets a treat.
Picture
Harley gets a cookie after he finishes his meal but he has to shake her hand first.
Connor was the walker of the day.
Picture
Connor walks Nancy and Harley back to their kennel.
Marco and Banjo got into a fight about a month ago. Marco has been mean to Banjo in the past. When we put Banjo with other dogs, then he’s the aggressor. Then he wants to go back with his brother Marco. Marco and Banjo kennel with Tabitha and she is the sweetest dog ever and she would never get into it. I thought it was just too much this time. We decided that we had to separate Marco and Banjo. I put Banjo in H2.

I wanted to find a playmate for Teddy, because Copper jumped on Teddy, Wendy and Cadet. Teddy is so much smaller, so I put him back in H2. We took Banjo and Teddy to the park together and they got along. They were getting along so well and we took them to the big park. We put Little Girl and Pepper back inside and gave Teddy and Banjo their outside kennel. They are enjoying it.
Picture
Teddy and Banjo are getting along really well, Here they are in the park sniffing around.
The two little Chihuahua puppies are using Bunny’s outside kennel. Bunny prefers to be outside at this time of the year. I have been letting Bunny out in the deck area. She is getting used to that. When she wants to come back inside, she barks and comes inside to sleep in her crate.
Picture
Bunny sits on the porch on Hospital One watching all the people come in and out.
We were still working on the trifold mailer in the early morning. We want to thank everybody, who helped us get this mailer out.
Picture
Juana works on the mailer between chores.
Sheila was the parvo puppy that we got from Morton Clinic. She’s completely recovered. She follows me everywhere and there she is sitting sit in my lap. She’s so sweet.
Picture
Little Sheila sure has taken a shine to Juana.
There are the two little Chihuahua puppies in Bunny’s outside kennel. We put puppy Autumn out there to play with them and they get along so well. They are all the same size.
Picture
That's Autumn on the right, and Nina and Sophia on the left.
It was Adoption Day. There’s David. He forgot his hat. Autumn went to Adoption Day and two of the four female Boxer/Hound mixes went too. Fallon had a home visit scheduled for Wednesday, so David took Talena. She’s the other brindle. And he took Morgan. She’s the darker brown puppy. I managed to take just two of them out of their kennel. Look how big they are! Remember when I used to hold all four puppies. It’s amazing. I can barely carry two girls. They grow so fast.
Picture
Juana hands Autumn to David. You can see the puppies watching.
Picture
As Juana and David walk by the puppies try to get their attention.
Picture
Juana has to get Talena and Morgan.
Picture
Juana got lucky and was able to get the two she needed right off the bat. They sure are getting big.
We put Banjo and Teddy in Bunny’s outside kennel. They were only in there about an hour and we picked them to go to Adoption Day. Every time we take some dogs out of the area, where Luna and Selena are, there’s a huge commotion. The barking can lead to a squabble. Wayne got the water hose, while I walked Banjo and Teddy out, in case any of the other dogs got too excited and started fighting.
Picture
There’s David ready to go with Autumn, Teddy, Banjo and the two puppies.
Picture
David carries Talena to the van.
Picture
Morgan and Talena are ready to go.
Picture
Autumn is not too sure she wants to go but once she gets there volunteer Sally makes her feel safe.
Picture
Teddy is always ready to go.
Picture
Banjo is happy and ready too.
We want to thank our dear friend, volunteer and contributor, Cathy Blanton. She keeps sending us lots of supplies from Wal-Mart. She has been sending us large amounts of bleach and Fabuloso. This time she sent us a large supply of laundry detergent. She’s been trying to help us with supplies. Thank you so very much, Cathy.
Picture
Puppy Sheila thinks she is my baby. She was crying, when she was indoors. Shelby brought her outside and, when she saw me, she was trying to jump out of Shelby’s arms to get to me. She is just a little goofball!
Picture
When little Sheila see Juana she tries to jump out of Shelby's arms to get to her.
Erica has been limping. I think we need to take her to the vet to get an x-ray of her leg. I don’t know if it’s her lymph nodes. She has the most muscular thighs. I’m not sure if the problem is in her muscle. We are going to take her to the vet. The Rimadyl has helped a little bit, but not enough. Junior is Erica’s kennelmate. Maci called me to tell me that Erica was limping. Erika and Junior do play rough.
Picture
Erika is still limping. Juana checks out her leg and it looks like we are going to have to take her back to the vet.
Shelby was working in kennels. Shelby, George Jr. and Maci are going to college full-time and working for us on weekends.
Picture
Panda and Oreo watch Shelby rake their kennel.
Here is little Jimmy. When we rescued him, he was feral. He has learned to trust us and Straydog will be his forever home. He knows that this is his home and he enjoys his life here. He also enjoys running and playing. We hope to be able to get him to trust us enough to put a leash on him.
Picture
Jimmy running the fence having a grand old time.
We had some fabulous volunteers help us with the mailer. Shelby’s boyfriend Nolan came to help us. Karen, Brandy’s mom, came to help us too and she’s so super fast. Next time we will have to get her to come earlier, because she’s so fast. There’s Connor. He helped after he finished his lunch. Every member of our crew helped. They helped on their breaks and every time they got the chance.
Picture
Shelby's boyfriend Nolan and Brandy's mother Karen help us on our mailer.
Picture
Connor works on the tabbing part.
We did all of our work and did lots of caregiving. There’s George Jr. with Mario and Judy.
Picture
There’s Shelby with Thunder and Storm.
Picture
There’s Maci with Ozzie and Ariel.
Picture
There’s George Jr. with Pinky and Lucy.
Picture
There’s Wayne with Embry, Luna and Selena. They live together, but they can get into squabbles, if there is a big commotion. We have to watch them.
Picture
Then in the afternoon, we had a really big storm. We were under a tornado watch. A tornado touched down in Canton and two people were killed. Karen was telling us about that. Our cellphones all went off and warned us to, “Take shelter now.” We can’t. We don’t have a tornado shelter. I guess we could just grab our dogs and try to head under a table.
Picture
It rained pretty hard when the storm came through.
BILL: That’s the Saturday show. We’ll be back tomorrow with another report from Straydog.

BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Friday, December 11, 2105. This is Bill and Juana here early Saturday morning from Hospital No. 1 at Straydog. We are out on the deck, because it’s such a beautiful day. It’s about 70 degrees.

JUANA: One of the first pictures is of our wonderful volunteer, Polly. She came in to help us for the second day in a row. She was helping us with the trifold Christmas mailing. We hope that everyone will get this in time for the holidays. At lunchtime, our crew was trying to do everything at once. Our first priority is feeding our dogs and taking care of them and then, on our breaks, we would come in and work on this mailing. The only smoker here is Wayne and he wasn’t here on Friday. Everyone else always stays indoors during their breaks, because they aren’t smokers. While our crew was on their breaks, they helped too. Ms. Polly brought some special treats. The ones that she likes to bring. She gave them to some of her favorite dogs, like Demon and Josie.
Picture
Bug and Oreo2 greet Volunteer Polly.

There’s Demon with his chewy in his new bed.
Picture
Demon thanks Polly for his chewy treat.

I was bringing Josie back from the park and she got her treat.
Picture
Josie gets a treat from Polly too.
Stephanie came in on her day off to help us for a couple of hours. There are our young adults, Maci and Shelby, at the table in H1. We wanted to get this mailing out as soon as possible.
Picture
Volunteer Polly (who visits and gives out treats to as many of our dogs as she can almost every Thursday) also came to Straydog today to help our crew work on getting the December trifold mailer ready to take to the post office on Monday, 12/14/15 (which did happen).
We named the parvo puppy. This adorable little girl doesn’t have parvo anymore. She had it and she beat it and it will never come back. Her name is Sheila. She got her puppy shots and she is only six months old. Maci suggested that we call her Sheila and we are running out of names. So we have a Shelia now. I took her out to the park with Henry, Bug and Rose. She was running all over the park as fast as she could. Henry, Bug and Rose couldn’t understand why. She was running as fast as her little legs could carry her. Later on, we took her out with Jetta’s gang and she got along with them so well.
Picture
Sheila takes off running with Rose right on her tail.
Picture
They run all over the place.
Picture
Bug gets in on the fun and chases Sheila too.
I don’t know what was wrong with Newly. I don’t know if it is pancreatitis or what it is. He’s not eating very well. He’s still going to the park, but he is arching his back. That means that he must be in pain. I was touching him, when he was in the park, and I realized his stomach is hurting. Bill, you will have to take him to the vet this morning.
Picture
Newly is not feeling too well, Bill will be taking him to see the doctor later on.
Ms. Polly brought big dog cookies that look like bones. She can’t walk around anymore and she wanted to walk around and give cookies to blind Cesar, Marie and blind and deaf Colt. I told her that I would give them out for her. There’s Marie and Cesar.
Picture
Marie has her eyes zoomed in on the cookies Juana has in her hand. And that's Cesar smelling the scents of the cookies.
I also had cookies to give to all of the other dogs, as I was walking around. She told me that I had to give treats to blind and deaf Colt in pieces. If he bites a cookie and pieces fall off, his kennelmates Miss B and Fatso eat them. I put Colt in the feeding gate and gave him his cookie. He was enjoying it. Then I gave cookies to Miss B and Fatso. Colt was licking his lips. He gave me a kiss to thank me. I told him that Miss Polly sent him that treat.
Picture
Fatso and Ms. B see Juana coming with the cookies. Wow, Fatso sure can jump high. That's blind and deaf Colt there in the back sun bathing.
Picture
Colt smells Juana with the cookies and is trying to figure out which direction they are in.
Picture
Juana puts Fatso and Ms. B in the feeding gate so she can feed Colt his cookies first without them getting in the way and stealing the pieces Colt drops.
Picture
Colt enjoying his treat.
Picture
Now Fatso and Ms. B get theirs.
Picture
Cookie excitement is over and they are all back together again.
There’s Wayne coming with bowls.
Picture
Maci was the walker of the day. There she is taking Mario and Judy to the park.
Picture
The weather is so crazy. It’s hot. I know that the weather in Texas is unpredictable, but it’s hot everywhere. Willow is still using his swimming pool. Most of the dogs are still using their pools. It’s 8:00 in the morning and it’s 70 degrees. It was 70 degrees at 5:00 this morning.
Picture
Willow still uses his swimming pool.
I got pictures of Pepper and Little Girl. They are back in Lena’s kennel in H2. They aren’t squabbling anymore. I don’t want to put them outside. The day I put them outside, Little Girl jumped on Pepper. She wouldn’t leave him alone. But they are okay in a little kennel together in H2.
Picture
Pepper and Little Girl say Hi!
There are our little girls. Fallon is the brindle puppy with a white line on her nose. David will be taking her on a home visit. It’s scheduled for this Wednesday in Garland. I don’t think the family has any other dogs.
Picture
Fallon and Mercedes say Hi too!
Here's a couple of beautiful pictures of Fred. We have won him over! He’s docile now. We still can’t put him on a leash, but we can kiss him, hug him and pet him. He licks us and trusts us.
Picture
Picture
There’s Sheila in a little Christmas stocking. If you want to have an adorable puppy in your stocking, we have the perfect puppy for you.
Picture
New Rescue Puppy Sheila, who likes Caregiver Shelby very much, wants to go to Juana, who's taking the photo.
BILL: We’ll be back soon with another report from Straydog.

BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Thursday, December 10, 2015. This is Bill with Juana here early Friday morning. We just walked the hospital gang and all of the dogs in H1 and we’re ready to do yesterday’s report.

JUANA: It was a good day and we had very nice weather. The weather is crazy. It’s December and it feels like spring. I want to say something before I forget. There are bees everywhere.

BILL: They are coming out because of the warm weather. There are flies and mosquitoes everywhere too. They think it is spring.

JUANA: We had a full crew. The first picture that we have on Thursday was of Jacob with Pokey and Bernie.
Picture
Jacob with Pokey and Bernie at the park gate.
Bernie is one of our newest rescues and he is an older Beagle. One of our contributors found Bernie roaming in the street. No one claimed him. He didn’t have a microchip or a tag. Our contributor took him to Morton Clinic. After we placed Gracie in an adoptive home, we thought he might get along with her kennelmate Pokey. At first I thought Bernie was a girl. But Bernie is so sweet that Pokey doesn’t even care that he’s kenneling with a male. We have the two boys together and they are doing well. When he first came to Straydog, Bernie would howl. He didn’t know that this was his home. As soon as he settled into a routine and he realized that he was going to be fed and walked and he was going to be loved, he was fine. We never hear a peep from him, unless it’s feeding time or park time. He loves his bed. I gave him a couch-type bed and he loves it. Bernie and Pokey are doing so well. But when Jacob had Bernie in the park, he called me. He said that he had a lot of cysts all over his body. The one on his back seems to be growing. If you squeeze them, little white stuff comes out. It is actually skin and the growth appears to be growing inside out. I talked to Dr. Dumeyer and she said that we should bring him to the clinic. I hadn’t taken a picture of it yet. I examined him all over and, when he first came to Straydog, they weren’t that bad. That’s probably why Morton Clinic didn’t remove them, when he was there. I think they are growing and it looked like one had burst, but it hasn’t. It looks like some kind of skin. It’s hard to explain.
Picture
Park Walker Jacob noticed a bump on Bernie's side and called Juana on his walkie-talkie to come to the park to take a look.
Picture
Juana finds an odd bump that she will tell the doctor about.
After we did all of our kennel work, we started caregiving. Everyone was enjoying the nice weather. Erika and Junior are doing very well. Our kennels were raked and they looked pretty.
Picture
Erica and Junior enjoy the nice day in their big kennel with their shelter building in the back right corner.
The four puppy girls were spayed on Tuesday and they are doing so well. They are about to knock this dead tree out. It’s just a stub and they chew it and pull on it. It’s fun to watch them.
Picture
These girls love to chew and play with this dead tree. They are growing up really fast.
There’s Jacob bringing Harley and Nancy to the park.

Photo to Come
Most of the kids are about to be on school break for the holidays and Shelby came to help us.

Photo to Come
Mr. Tyler was repairing the latches on the hinges of one of the gates.

Photo to Come
We were working on the last mailing of the year. It’s a trifold. The crew was coming in and out and helping. The mailing was already folded. We had to stuff them and put them in an envelope with a card and put three tab seals on them. David didn’t bring the labels until later in the day, so we will apply the labels on Friday. We put Polly to work. I texted Ms. Polly and told her, if she was coming today, we could use her help with a big project. She was very happy to help. We had fun, because we got to sit and work and that’s not what we normally do. We worked on it, as we could, all day. I didn’t get very many pictures, because I was working on the mailing. We hope to take them to the Post Office today.

Photo to Come
I want to report that Amy and Tobi are doing much better. They are taking their medicine and eating and Tobi’s temperature is back to normal.

Photo to Come
