Yesterday we had two new dogs come in under extremely sad circumstances, one of whom I immediately fell in love with. I got to spend some more time with Sugar Bear today and she's such an amazing girl! My heart broke for her, I really wish there were a way I could explain everything that's going on to her, and tell her just how loved she will be with us.

Dez is the sweetest pitty pup of all time. With her cute little pig grunts and her short and stocky build, she could not be any more beautiful, and she also has the best personality. She’s been limping a bit here lately, maybe from all the jumping she does, from being so excited to go to the park or maybe it’s from when someone goes to visit her in her kennel. I guess she’s still a bit sore because it’s just a little limp and it’s not every day.

CUTE PUPPY ALERT - Pebbles, Hershey, and Reese are the sweetest, cuddly pups ever. They love to be held and aren’t too rambunctious in the least. All they want is your love. With their beautiful eyes, soft coats and lovely personalities, they would make a wonderful addition to someone’s family.

It was rather bittersweet to walk in this morning and not see Luna. She was most definitely a shelter favorite and we're all going to miss her so much, but I couldn't be happier for her and her new family. I'm so grateful someone outside the shelter walls finally saw her in the same light that we all do.
May our beloved Demon Rest In Peace. He is no longer in pain and he lived a long wonderful life here at Straydog (16 years), he will be so missed by all of us here. He wasn’t always the nicest dog but he had a heart of gold and he loved his Mama Juana. He had a personality like no other and I know I’m sure going to miss “Getting his tail”.
Sunday night was a sad day for our Straydog family. Decisions had to be made, feelings had to be set aside, tears were shed and what is right and just had to prevail. For the past few weeks Mr. Demon displayed signs of significant pain and suffering, gradually getting worse day by day. At his age the arthritis became just too much for him to endure, he was a fighter and enjoyed his surroundings to the fullest. The multiple, daily trips to H1 park where he earned his name by being a little rambunctious and combative, was the highlight of his days. As he aged, his aggressive attitude eased into a peaceful, playful spirit. I can proudly say that he received the greatest life possible from our team of caregivers. So many of our rescues spend the entirety of their life with us (it's a great life) but as with everything in life the possibility of something greater is always present. You can help make things greater as well, visit Straydog.org or like us on Facebook and make your house a little greater by adding one of our deserving rescues. R.I.P. Buddy Demon.

All the dogs seem to be extra spunky when the cooler weather hits, but Miss Kayla was in full sass mode today. She was so energetic and playful that I could hardly even get her to slow down long enough to give her a cookie.

Yesterday was spent putting front boards on 54 outside dog houses. Front boards are applied to the front of each individual dog house during the winter months to ensure maximum warmth inside. Winterizing these houses helps to protect our babies from the frigid cold air and bitter winds that they sometimes face being outside during the colder months. The winterizing process starts with the team making sure that the dog houses are stuffed full of hay. The hay provides a warm bed inside the igloos for the doggies to bed in. Next step is to ensure that all of the heating lamps are installed and in working order. These lamps provide additional heat to the inside of each house. Last the front boards are placed on the shelter with a perfect accessible square for the dogs to enter and exit with ease. In the end their shelters provide adequate heat and warmth to make it a comfortable winter for them.

Jet is one of those dogs that give you no choice whatsoever as to whether or not you're going to love her. Her method of greeting someone is always a hug, and quite an amazing hug at that. She is by far one of the sweetest little souls I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Here is Straydog’s newest resident, Dallas. I met him for the first time today and he completely stole my heart. He’s a bit weary of people at first and can be a little snippy, but it didn’t take him long to warm up to me.
