JUANA: It was a good day and a hot day and it didn’t rain. We had a full crew. We decided to change our schedule just a little bit for the summer. It was the first day that I moved the afternoon feeding to 5:30 or almost 6:00 in the afternoon. It’s a little cooler. But the time we are done feeding it’s a lot cooler and there’s shade in most of the kennels. It’s a lot better than trying to feed the dogs at 2:00 in the afternoon, which is the hottest part of the day.
BILL: We’ve done this in the past, but not every year.
JUANA: We haven’t been able to do it, when we didn’t have enough people to do it. Some of our crewmembers are going to come in at 2:00 and leave at 7:00. We have less people in the daytime. We aren’t feeding the dogs their meals at 2:00, but we still have the rest of our chores to do. We have more time for caregiving, because we aren’t feeding the dogs at 2:00 and that’s much better for the dogs.
BILL: Ballplayers never give up. They just want to play their whole lives.
BILL: Do we still have fleas in their kennels? Does bleach kill fleas too? It must.
JUANA: We also have to clean the kennels. We have to bleach the kennels. We have to take every precaution step by step. Lucy and Shelby came to work early. They were supposed to come at 2:00 and they came earlier. We dipped all of the H1 dogs. Every one of them got dipped. There’s Demon.
BILL: Okay, we’ll be back tomorrow with another report from Straydog.
