BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Saturday, January 23, 2016. This is Bill and Juana here a couple of days later with the Saturday report. It started out at 30 degrees and it got up to about 50 degrees with a little wind. It must have turned into a nice day later on.
JUANA: The morning was super cold and it was below freezing for one of the first times this year. We saw ice in the water buckets. After we fed the dogs, we had to go around breaking the ice in the water buckets. The dogs were thirsty. They were scratching the buckets to break the ice. It was a thin layer of ice, maybe a quarter of an inch, but the dogs couldn’t break it. We have little sticks. I save the ends of the old brooms to use to break the ice.

It turned out to be a nice day. We were all bundled up in the morning. It was cold on Saturday, but it didn’t feel as cold as it felt on Friday, because Friday was very windy. It was horribly windy. Saturday was actually a better day for us. We had a full crew and we were planning to attend an Adoption Day event. David took Genie and she’s just so shy that we don’t know if we will ever find a home for her. I don’t know why she’s so shy.
Daylight has been staying with poor Chip. I wanted to find a kennelmate for him, who doesn’t have to go inside and outside. I don’t want Chip to be lonely. Maybe Betty will get better and she will be able to go back outside with Chip in the spring. Anyway, David took Daylight to Adoption Day and, for some reason, a little dog came right up to Daylight and barked in her face. After that Daylight was in a bad mood and she barked and growled at other dogs and she wasn’t happy at all for the rest of the day. David and the others thought it was because a dog got right in her face and barked. People don’t understand that they have to keep their dogs under control, when they walk them in public. I guess these people let the dog get in Daylight’s face. Daylight was in a really bad mood and she wasn’t a good girl for the rest of the day.
C-Stat and Jet also went to Adoption Day. Look at how high Jet can jump.
There’s my beautiful, handsome C-Stat. He’s just a beautiful, handsome boy. He’s just adorable.
This is Handsome. Last week there was a family that met Handsome and they were very interested in him. They have three dogs and two of the dogs are older. They have one dog, who might give them some resistance to getting another dog. So they were planning to bring that dog to meet Handsome on Saturday. If that worked out, they wanted to have a home visit next weekend.
We also got a call from a different family, asking to meet with Handsome and Spencer. We couldn’t fit two big dogs, like Handsome and Spencer in the van on Saturday. We already had interest in Daylight and Black Labs and Handsome. We couldn’t take Spencer at the same time. We told the lady that the very next day, which was Sunday, we were having an adoption event with RagTag Rescue. We could bring Spencer to the same place, PetSmart on 635 in Mesquite. Handsome is always so excited to be going to Adoption Day. He loves going to Adoption Day.
This is a picture of Cheyenne. She’s a big girl and she’s slowing down. We think she has arthritis in her hips and she is losing muscle. She sometimes has trouble getting up and down. She might also have hip dysplasia. She has trouble walking, but she is hanging in there.
This is a picture of Rosita. There is some ice on the ground that I missed and she is looking at it. It is a cute picture.
Shelby was the walker of the day and she was walking Pokey and Bernie to the park. You can see the ice in Pokey’s kennel and the ice on the bucket.
This is Terry and Brody. They really enjoyed themselves today. It was a really good day.
We talked about taking Fred to the park the other day. Well, he made a liar out of me. You asked me to get pictures of us taking him to the park. As soon as Shelby put the leash on him, he freaked out and ran into his doghouse and he wouldn’t come out. He wouldn’t walk on a leash. We took him to the park, the day before, and on the way back he ran to his kennel. But this time, he never made it out of his kennel. He acted like he would have loved to go to the park, but he was too scared. We think that he has had trauma in his life, but he is coming around.
Because Daylight went to Adoption Day, Chip was going to be by himself. We carried pups Sophia and Talena and put them with Chip, so he wouldn’t be lonely. Sophia was fine, because Talena calms her. They both did well. When I was trying to leave Sophia with Chip the last time, it was cold and she was shivering and that’s why we separated them. This Saturday was a pretty day and she was perfectly fine.
That left Talena and Sophia’s kennel empty and Rudy enjoys being outside. We put Rudy and Spice out there and it was such a pretty day. Spice would normally rather be inside, but she enjoyed being outside on Saturday.
This is a very cute picture. Glenda donated cots to us. Tallie chewed on the one that she had and I got a piece of tarp and I repaired it with zip ties. Then I gave it to Purtis, Rosita and Big Boy. Purtis jumped in the bed and he stuck his little forelegs out. He was lying on the ground with his head through the hole and he thought he was lying in the bed. His little butt was on the ground. It was so cute, but I will fix it for them.
This is Maci caregiving Fred and Ethel. Fred is doing so well and he’s coming around. He really likes Maci and we can pet him and love on him. When he first came to Straydog, he wouldn’t come close. Ethel just gets so jealous and she barks and starts fights. We then have to yell at Ethel and that frightens Fred. We might have to separate them occasionally, because Ethel doesn’t want Fred to get any attention. She’s jealous.
There’s Colin and Kayla getting caregiving from George Jr. They love caregiving.
There’s Maci with her hands full. Ethel was barking at Fred and scaring him. He lets us hug him, but Ethel just wants to bark at him.
This is Spencer going to Adoption Day on Sunday. We wouldn’t leave his kennelmate Gina behind. These are the biggest dogs that we will be taking on Sunday.
This is Mario in the park.
This is Chip. I got behind Chip’s kennel to take a picture and there are the puppies Talena and Sophia in the front. Wayne called the pups, Talena and Sophia, and gave them cookies. I called them to me and they ran to me. They are just so cute. Chip is the sweetest boy. I hope that we will be able to take him to Adoption Day one day. He is Raisin and Oreo’s brother. Cookie, the other sister, didn’t survive spay surgery. When we rescued them, we called them, “The Starving Pups.”
There's Judy and Mario going back to the kennel after they went to the park with Shelby.
It was just a beautiful day.
