On our roster was puppies Cadet and C-Stat, Jet, Patrick and Aubrey. When I went to load up the dogs for their trip to Adoption Day we made a small change in the roster. Since Patrick's kennel mate Miranda recently was adopted, Juana had moved Ms. B in with him so he would not be along. They really like each other and get along well. If I was to take Patrick to Adoption Day that would leave Ms. B all by herself and that's why I gave her Jet's place on the roster. So we loaded up the van and Ms. B barked and wined to be in the crate with her new kennel mate Patrick so I put them together and they rode all the way in the same crate.
They asked if we could help and it was apparent that they did not have any other options so how could we say no. We do not have any room at the shelter right now so we are going to have to board him. I just so happened to have an extra empty crate in the van because of the roster change and how that turned out. It kind of seems like this was just meant to be for us to help this dog.
Our vet, Morton Clinic, was open today but closing early so I had to pack up and head that way. This dog looks like he might have been out on his own for a few weeks we think. He was pretty dirty and had a lot of brushing that need done. Both of his ears had hair missing on the tips, we could tell it was fly bites. He also seemed quite hungry and thirsty. He looked to be about a year old or so, was well behaved and got along with anyone who came up to pet him. Great looking teeth too and it did not seem like there was anything wrong with him at all, but as all rescues go, you have to check them out.
At the vet we found out that he had heart worms along with round and hook worms too. It's common for rescues to have round and hook worms but it's always sad when they have heart worms. This fella's path crossed ours just in a nick of time. Thanks so much for the couple who pulled over and saved this guy. By the way, I have to tell you his name that all our Adoption Day volunteers wanted him to have. It's Indy, short for Independence, the Day he was rescued. He's in good hands now and we will fix him up, he'll be fine.
As far as how the rest of our Adoption Day went, Puppies C-Stat and Cadet had fun playing with the empty water bottles again. Patrick and Ms. B enjoyed their outing and Aubrey was happy as ever. We had one of our contributors Renee M. come volunteer with us today. She loved being with us and helping out. Charlotte and Jasmine, David B., Sally, Todd and my wife Linda made things go very smooth, just like they always do.
For the next two weekends we will be at the DFW Summer Boat Expo at Market Hall. Please come by and visit if you can. We will be back here at Petsmart Mesquite on Saturday, July 25, 2015.
