This week's Adoption Day was back at the Petsmart in Mesquite. It was a very busy day. We all had fun showing off our dogs that attended to the many people that stopped to visit. It is hard to say what the highlight of the day was as there seemed to be so many of them. I brought a couple of first timers (Chester and puppy Cadet) who were both a little bit shy and timid at first. Lizzy, our German Shepherd Husky mix is so friendly with other dogs that she put both Chester and Cadet at ease. It only took her a few moments before she had both of them feeling comfortable and wagging their tails. By the way, I am counting this as one of the highlights of the day.
And Chester's first time to Adoption Day was a real blast for him. After Lizzy made him feel at home he enjoyed himself so much. He really liked getting out and what a good dog he is. He walks on a leash perfect, no pulling what so ever. He enjoys being hugged on and petted and was just a joy having here today. Who ever adopts Chester is going to get a wonderful pet.
Foster Dog Aubrey was back with us today. She has taken off the last couple of weekends and we were all glad to see her again. So many people raved on how pretty she was as they always do. Aubrey is always glad to see us at Adoption Day too. She makes everyday a highlight!
A few weeks ago Lizzy had some interest from a couple (Mark and Gwen) who came out to our shelter to visit her. They also wanted Lizzy to meet their dog Boo, who is a young Black Lab, to see if they would get along. They got along just fine, but on the way to the park they saw puppy Gig'em (C-Stat and Cadet's brother) and wanted to meet him too. So after Lizzy had her turn Gig'em was up. He first jumped in the pool to play in the water, then he jumped out of the pool and tried to get Boo to play and then back into the water again. This went on a few times and it was pretty much decided that Gig'em was going to be the one that they adotped. They left the shelter to think about it and gave us a call back letting us know that Gig'em was their choice and that they would like to do a home visit this coming Sunday. Well, that's how the meet-and-greet went. Today at Adoption Day we saw Gwen at Petsmart with a basket full of puppy stuff for Gig'em. How cool is that. Seeing Gwen getting ready for her new family member was another highlight of the day.
Sally has all of their attention with the cookies she's handing out. She makes them all sit before they get one
Lets talk about the two puppies C-Stat and Cadet. C-Stat's first time to Adoption Day was last week and today was Cadet's first time. Last week C-Stat had some issues with the leash, he did not like it. This week was Cadet's first time to experience a leash, she did not know what to think about it at first but Jasmine said she was going to teach them how to walk on a leash and took them both off thru the store to learn, and they did learn. They actually did great. Jasmine and these two pups were like paper and glue, together all day long. Watching Jasmine teach the pups how to walk was a highlight too.
And here I think is the biggest highlight of the day. C-Stat got a application taken home to fill out. A really nice family spent time playing with both the pups on their way out of the store. This family lost their dog three years ago and have now decided that it was time to adopt another one. They left to think about it and a little bit later the mom (Sarah) came running back in asking for an application. Let's keep our fingers crossed because I have a really good feeling about this and do believe C-Stat has found her forever home.
A wonderful Adoption Day, great dogs, terrific fellowship with our crew and nice weather. We will be at this Petsmart in Mesquite again next Saturday, please come see us if you can.
