They both had an application sent in so we took them to meet their possible new parents today. We all wondered how they would be out in the world because their whole life they have been kind of timid and skittish. They have been at the shelter since they were puppies and Vinnie always had a hard time coming to you. Having his brother Darrell by his side was his security blanket so we decided that we would not split them up and that they had to be adopted together. It's hard to find someone that wants to adopted two black dogs at the same time so we figured that they would be long term residents of Straydog and probably live they whole lives with us. We have actually taken them to adoption events but they did not work out too well out in public. As time has gone on they have grown up and Vinnie has learned to trust more but still he is a bit on the skittish side. Today at Adoption Day we were all surprised on how well they did because it was opposite of what we were expecting. They did great! We were so happy to see this in them and were now optimistic that they might actually get adopted.
The application we received on them came from a couple that met us at the Auto Show in Dallas a few years ago. They stopped by our booth to visit and every since they have been following us. When Mary Ellen and Kerry arrived at Petsmart and met Vinnie and Darrell, right away a connection was made and they fell in love with them. Mary Ellen takes care of her daughters dog Chance for a few days every month so the three of them would have to get along. We went to do a home visit and things went pretty good. Chance was a little territorial of the back yard and the house but he is submissive, just like Vinnie and Darrell so we think it is going to work out. Especially since Mary Ellen has had experience dealing with multiple dogs at one time. We are going to wait for about a week or so before finalizing the adoptions so look for my report in the near future.
When Erin and myself returned to Petsmart after the home visit, foster dog Aubrey was outside being walked by a family who were really interested in her. She just might have a home too. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Genie and Jet also attended Adoption Day today and they got along so well together. When Vinnie and Darrell get adopted I think Juana is going to put them together as kennel mates.
A couple of years ago, Glenda, a very special friend and supporter of Straydog, came by to visit us and donated some dog treats and some tarps. Glenda adopted Snow from us a couple of years ago and she is recovering just fine after a surgery to correct a bone growth problem she was having.
Todd C. came by and fed us humans with tacos and burritos and our dogs with treats. We were all hungry and it was so much appreciated.
The day went by and before you know it was time to shut down and call it a day. Thank you Sally, David, Todd and Linda for all your help.
