BILL ANNOUNCES: Straydog Radio Show covering the events of Saturday, October 8, 2016. This is Bill and Juana here with the Saturday report.
JUANA: It was a beautiful day.
The first picture is of Polly and Winston. We’ve talked about the fact that we moved Winston and put him with Polly. They are doing so very well together.

We attended Adoption Day, as we do almost every Saturday, and we took Marshall, Tarzan and Goldie.
This is a picture of walks in the Pat Arnold Park. Caragan was the walker of the day.
My nephew, Juan Manuel was here with us. He likes to volunteer with us on Saturdays. He’s living with us and he likes to get up early on Saturday mornings and help me, when he could be sleeping in. He loves dogs. I asked him to rake the leaves in the park. We will have more and more leaves and it’s hard to rake the leaves, because they are brown and the poopers are brown. It’s hard to tell the difference between the poopers and leaves. We have that same problem in our yard at home. Caragan was doing walks and Juan Manuel was more interested in playing with the dogs. There’s a picture of Juan Manuel near the tree playing with the dogs and Caragan was raking the leaves.
We got the job done. Gordo came to Straydog and I will show you pictures of him later on in this report. He was taking the big, heavy bags of leaves out.
Sherri was here working. She doesn’t want to be the walker anymore. She’s like me, we are getting older. And she does such a great job in the kennels. She will do walks, if we need her to do that. But, if we have a walker, she would rather work in kennels. Sherri is excellent at walks, but that is constant walking and it’s a lot more work. You can slow down and work at your own pace in kennels, but Sherri is fast. There she is filling up a water bucket.
Here’s Juan Manuel. We had piles of leaves and we put them in black bags. We can’t burn them.
There’s Caragan bringing Hannah and Chubs to the park.
I was outside taking pictures. There was so much going on. I had Purtis and Angel waiting for me. If I leave the Gang outside, they just sit and wait by the gate and wait for me. They like to watch me walking around. They are just so cute.
Wayne-O was working in kennels and cleaning up the small park for Hospital Two.
Gordo came to help us do some mowing and we asked him to move all of the heavy bags of leaves out of the park.
We had very interesting visitors. We met Steve, because he’s a golfer and Linda Arnold knew him. After this adoption, a daughter of one our volunteers told us that she knows Steve’s wife Terri. She told us that she is the nicest lady and they are the loveliest family. That was good to know. They wanted to adopt a companion for their dog Penny. They’d lost two dogs to old age and Penny had been alone for about six months. All three of their dogs were rescues. Penny was lonely, because her companions had passed away. They wanted to bring Penny to Straydog, to see if they could find a companion for her. On the Internet, they chose Banjo, Travis and Panda. I was hesitant to try any of these three. I thought Banjo might do well, so we brought Banjo out first.
Penny was so nervous and she was freaking out. Our shelter environment frightened her. She probably thought her parents were going to leave her. She wasn’t interested in meeting anybody. Her parents were very surprised, because she is such a good and submissive dog. But she showed teeth and she wasn’t having it and she was just so nervous. Penny’s mom thought the dogs were intimidating her, because they were all so tall. I told her that I thought I had the perfect dog and it was Daylight. She’s smaller and she is a hyper, little dog, but she’s very good and she gets along with everyone. We thought Daylight might put Penny at ease. We were in the park. It’s like being in a big stadium with all of the dogs barking around you and there was so much commotion. I thought about our yard, behind our super trailer. We don’t use it for our dogs. It wasn’t even mowed that day. I remembered that is where we went with Barbara’s dog. We offered that to them and we went there. Then we brought Travis out again and Penny wasn’t interested. Travis was really good, but Travis’ age wasn’t appealing to them. We let them walk around together and they were okay.
Terri wanted another female and she liked Daylight right away. We brought Daylight to the yard and we walked and walked them. Linda came out to visit.
Penny was a little hesitant, but she wasn’t growling at Daylight. Her parents know Penny and thought that when her doggie companions passed away, Penny might have decided that she was top dog. She was submissive, before they passed away.
They wanted to have a home visit. I know how good Daylight is. But I told them, if Penny jumps on her, Daylight would jump back. I told them that was my only concern. As long as Penny wasn’t aggressive, Daylight would love her and play with her. Daylight won’t be submissive, if she’s jumped on. They understood and said they would keep them on leashes and walk them together. They really wanted to work with Daylight and Penny and they wanted them to meet again. David was on duty at Adoption Day, so I contacted him and we set the home visit for the next day. They live very close to us. So we were going to do a home visit and give Daylight a chance.
BILL: The home visit will be on Sunday. We’ll be right back with another report from Straydog.
