JUANA: We have been talking about Mr. Charlie. I stayed with him here at Straydog on Monday night. Luckily, Lacie was here again on Tuesday and she helped me with him. He had a good night and we fed him when he got up. Dr. James didn’t think he would make it through the night but I thought his eyes looked better. He didn’t cry at all that night. I think he was comfortable with me holding his paw. He got up early and we fed him. Dr. James wanted to see him again on Tuesday and do more blood work, because he was worse on Monday than he was on Sunday. We didn’t take any more x-rays. He wanted to wait one more day for that, but he did want to do some more blood work. He was looking at the white blood cell count, which was showing infection.
Allie was squinting. She is one of the Chihuahuas in the Chihuahua Gang. Not all of our Chihuahuas will let us touch them, but she will. She is very sweet. One of our crewmembers thought that she was squinting her eye and something was wrong with it. Lacie thought it looked like an ulcer and she took Allie to the vet. You might be wondering why Lacie was here and where George was. A week ago, Mr. David Ford stepped wrong on one of our steps in the kennel office. He twisted his ankle and he fell. That happened on Sunday, May 8th. We didn’t know that it was broken, because he didn’t go to the doctor until that Thursday. I sent him to the doctor, because his foot was so swollen. He had x-rays at the ER on the 12th of May and found out that his ankle was fractured. I stayed at Straydog that night and covered for him. Oh my goodness, I am so worried about him. He has a cast and he can’t work. But we have to keep on going no matter what. The dogs don’t care who is here, but somebody has to be. George is helping to cover for Brandy and Brandy is going to cover for David Ford. I come to Straydog every day at 6:00 in the morning and close up at 6:00 in the evening. Our other overnight crewmember Brandy will alternate nights with George until David heals and the doctor clears him for work. Luckily, Lacie had these two days off and she could help me. She did the vet visit for me, so I could run the shelter. There’s Lacie and Charlie in the van.
